Catharina De Ridder Oothout

by

Catharina De Ridder may have been born in March 1699. If so, she was the daughter of schoolteacher and Albany resident Evert De Ridder and his wife, Anna Van Ness De Ridder. She grew up in a large family in houses in Albany and its countryside.

In January 1735, she would have been in her mid-thirties when she married a somewhat older Volkert Oothout at the Albany Dutch church. That marriage appears to have been childless. However, one traditional source notes two "Hendricks" born during the late 1730s. In May 1742, Catharina may have witnessed a baptism at Linlithgo with her husband.

In 1754, she was left twenty pounds in the will of Luycas Wyngaert for kindnesses shown him by Catharina and her husband. After that, we have not yet encountered reference to her in the sources thus far encountered.

These Oothouts were Albany residents where Volkert operated a brewery. He lived into the late 1760s.

We seek information on the later life and passing of Catharina De Ridder Oothout.
