Maria Bensing Van Hoesen

by

According to family records, Maria Bensing was born in July 1659. She was the daughter of Beverwyck pioneers Dirck and Cathalina Bercx Bensing. However, her father died seven months before her birth and her mother re-married.

In 1663, she was named in the joint will filed by her mother and stepfather and was said to have been about four years old at the time.

She is believed to have married Volckert Janse Van Hoesen. They had a child who was baptized in January 1692.

This Van Hoesen family lived in Albany where curiously Maria was the only adult listed in the house on the city census taken in 1697.

Volckert Janse soon returned to Albany where he died in 1725. We seek information on the passing of Maria Bensing Van Hoesen.
