Dirck Bensing

by

Dirck Bensing probably was born during the 1620s. Traditional sources hold that he was from Groningen, lived in Amsterdam, and emigrated to New Netherland about 1648. He settled in Beverwyck where he died on January 6, 1659.

Dirck Bensing was a carpenter and the husband of Catharina Bercx who bore at least five children who were still alive in 1663. His son, Dirck, became an Albany resident.

The first Dirck Bensing in what became Albany lived less than forty years!
