Stoddard must have enjoyed these assign-ments to record the regattas. The ACA was founded in 1880 along the shores of Lake George, near the peak of Stoddard’s popularity and near home. The images highlight his skill as a photographer – an easy working compatibility with large groups, getting them to pose in humorous settings; a special attraction to boats and water; and, most of all, showing people enjoying the Adirondacks.
