Fire Engine

Drawing of a Newsham fire engine like the pumper purchased by Albany in 1732. Richard Newsham of London was granted his first patent for fire apparatus improvements in 1721. A number of his fire engines are on exhibit at museums in the United States. Colonial Williamsburg offers an interesting exposition on firefighting in early America.
