Rebecca Wendell Diamond

Rebecca Wendell was born in September 1774. She was first child born to the marriage of John J. and Alida Hooghkerk Wendell. Three younger siblings also became mainline Albany residents. However, he father died before Rebecca reached adulthood and she was among the five females enumerated on the census in 1790 under her mother's household in the first ward.

By the late 1790s, she had become the wife of William M. Diamond. As many as seven children were christened by them between 1797 and 1806.

During the first decades of the 1800s, she joined with her husband in selling lots in the southerly part of the first ward. Beyond that, references to those Diamonds have not been found in the community based records.

"Rebecca, the widow of William M. Diamond" died in early February 1855. The newspaper notice (p.318) gave her age as 80.
