Anna Van Vechten Schermerhorn

Anna Van Vechten was born in December 1692. She was the daughter of Rensselaerswyck resident Cornelis Teunise and possibly his third wife, Maria Luycasse Van Vechten. Anna grew up in a home just beyond the boundaries of Albany.

In June 1714, she married Albany property holder and contractor Jacob J. Schermerhorn, Jr. at the Albany Dutch church. By 1737, ten of her children were christened in Albany and three more at the Dutch church in Kinderhook.

These Schermerhorns made there home in the Schodack section of Rensselaerswyck and lived there for many decades.

In June 1765, Anna stated that she was about seventy-four-years-old when she was deposed in an Albany probate case from 1711. She stated that a neighbor told her that the supposed testator, Jochim Staats, was "out of his head." Anna Van Vechten Schermerhorn died sometime after making that statement.
