Jannetie Van Slyck Heyer

by

Jannetie Van Slyck (Jane) was born in January 1744 and christened at the Albany Dutch church. She was the daughter of southern Albany County resident Hendrick Van Slyck and his second wife, Elizabeth Van Benthuysen Van Slyck.

In 1772, she was twenty-eight when she married the slightly older newcomer and possible widower Gerrit Heyer. By 1787, their six children had been christened in Albany.

These Heyers raised their family in the Court Street home where Gerrit lived for many years. However, Jannet Van Slyck Heyer seems to have passed on by 1800, when the first ward census showed no adult women living in the Heyer household that included four now adolescent children. Gerrit Heyer died in 1821.
