The story of the Albany Vanderpoel family begins with the marriage and emigration of Wynant Gerritse and Tryntie Melchoirs to New Netherland about 1640.

Within a decade, they had settled in Beverwyck.

1697: Melgert Melgerts, Melgert Wynantse,

In 1720, Wynant Vanderpoel was counted among the freeholders of the first ward.
