Cornelia Vandenbergh Van Alstyne

by

Cornelia Vandenbergh was born in May 1724. She was the daughter of Matthias and Cathalina Van Deusen Vandenbergh. She was a middle child in a large Albany-area family but lost her father in 1745. An older Cornelia Vandenbergh married an M. Van Alstyne in 1705.

In November 1748, she married Rynier Van Alstyne at the Albany Dutch church. By 1760, four children reflecting the names of the grandparents had been christened at the Albany church.

These Van Alstynes first lived in the second and third wards where Rynier was a shoemaker and a city placeholder and contractor. At some time during the era of the American Revolution, they relocated to the Manor where Rynier had leased a farm in Greenbush. In 1790, their Rensselaerswyck household consisted of seven family members and two slaves.

Rynier Van Alstyne may have lived into the 1820s. We seek documentation regarding the later life and passing of Cornelia Vandenbergh Van Alstyne
