Maria Van Buren Schermerhorn

by

Maria Van Buren probably was born during the 1670s. She appears to have been the daughter of New Netherland pioneers Hendrick and Elizabeth Van Slyck Van Buren.

In March 1695, she married Cornelis Schermerhorn at the Albany Dutch church where they both were members. By 1710, the marriage had produced six children who were christened in Albany and New York.

These Schermerhorns raised their family in a comfortable home in Albany's second ward.

However, Maria Van Buren Schermerhorn was dead by February 1713 when her husband re-married. Her life lasted less than forty years.
