Maria Vigne Verplanck

by

According to a number of traditional sources, Maria Vigne was born about 1613 and probably in Europe. A number of birth scenarios seem plausible but she could have been the daughter of Guleyn and Adriantie Cuvilje Vigne. Mindful of the inherent difficulty of this, we do seek information on her origins and path to New Netherland.

By the mid-1630s, she was in New Netherland and had married Abraham Isaacse. By 1651, that union had produced eight children who would establish the Verplanck family in lower New York and in Albany.

These Verplancks raised their family in New Amsterdam/New York where Abraham Isaacse found success in business and landholding.

Maria Vigne Verplanck is said to have died by 1671. Her husband survived for another two decades.
