Elizabeth Vinhagen Oothout

by

Elizabeth Vinhagen was born in September 1715. She was the daughter of Johannes and Maria Van Tricht Vinhagen. She grew up in a moderate sized family in Albany's second ward.

In April 1756, Elizabeth married widower and Rensselaerswyck native Jonas Oothout at the Albany Dutch church. Their marriage added two children to his combined family.

These Oothouts lived in the West Manor - north of the Schuylers and west of what became Green Island.

Jonas Oothout seems to have passed during the 1770s or 80s. Mindful of the three Oothout-named households reported in Watervliet in 1790, we seek infomation on Elizabeth's living situation after 1770.

Widow Elizabeth Vinhagen Oothout was buried from the church in February 1806. She is said to have been the first child christened in the "new" Albany church in 1715 and the last buried from it in 1806 - or so the story goes.
