Susanna Truax was born about 1620. She was the daughter of Philip and Susanna du Chesne Truax. Her family were Walloons who emigrated to New Netherland about 1624.

In July 1644, she married Evert Janse Wendell at the New Amsterdam Dutch church. The marriage produced at least eight children who established the Wendell family name in Albany and its environs.

By the early 1650s, these Wendells had settled in Beverwyck where Evert Janse served in several official capacities while earning a living in the fur trade and in real estate.

Susanna Truax Wendell died about 1662 and her husband re-married. Seven of her children were named in Evert Janse's pre-nuptual agreement signed in 1663. Susanna was the matriarch of the Wendell family in Albany.
