Anna Rumney Van Benthuysen

by

Spelled and referred to variously, Anna Rumney probably was born during the 1740s. We expect to connect her with the Albany Rumney family but have not yet defined her specific origins.

About 1768, she married Albany native Obadiah Van Benthuysen. Between 1769 and 1791, the couple christened ten children at the Albany Dutch church.

These Van Benthuysens raised their family in Albany's first ward - at first probably in the house of Obadiah's widowed mother.

In 1800, Anna proably was accounted for in the first ward household headed by Obadiah Van Benthuysen.

Obadiah Van Venthuysen was dead by 1817 when his widow was listed in the city directory at 25 Division Street.

Anna Rumney Van Benthuysen died in July 1825. The "widow of Obadiah Van Benthuysen" had lived for seventy-five years.
