Nicholas Hansen

by

Nicholas Hansen was born in September 1698. He was the son of Hendrick and Debora Van Dam Hansen. His father was named mayor of Albany about the time of his birth. He was raised in a confortable home on Market Street.

In 1722, he married Schenectady native Engeltie Wemp at the Schenectady Dutch church. By 1733, three children had been christened in Schenectady.

Following his father's death early in 1724, he inherited a substantial tract of land north of the Mohawk River - to be held in conjunction with his brother.

During the 1720s, Nicholas Hansen settled and that land and was among the founders of "Tribes Hill." He also inherited a share of a pasture lot in Schenectady.

We seek information on his later life and passing.
