Anna Hogan Douw

by

Anna Hogan was born in August 1700. She was the daughter of newcomer Irishman Willem and Albany native Martina Becker Hogan. She was a middle child in the substantial first ward home of a Southside Albany innkeeper.

At least by the early 1730s, she had become the second wife of Volkert Douw, Jr.. Between 1732 and 1740, her four children had been christened at the Albany Dutch church. During that time, she may have witnessed an occasional baptism.

In September 1732, she was identified as the wife of "Valarie Dowe Jr." and left a share of her parents' estate.

These Douws raised their family in a house in the first ward.

We seek defining information on her later life and passing. Cautioned by the existence of at least one other same-named contemporary, we move on for now from the life of Albany native and mother Anna/Hannah Hogan Douw.
