Anna (Nancy) Hoffman was born in July 1774. She was the daughter of Harman Hoffman of Claverack and his first wife, Catherine Douw .

In July 1790, she married Barent Ten Eyck at the Albany Dutch church. The marriage produced two children before Ten Eyck's death in 1796. Her second husband was Scottish physician William Mc Clelland. Their son, "Genet," was baptized in the Albany Presbyterian church in November 1798.

Dr. Mc Clelland set up his home in Albany's first ward. Anna had become the wife of a prominent physician and professor of medicine!

William Mc Clelland became ill and died in 1812 at the age of forty-three. In 1813, the Widow Mc Clelland was listed in the first city directory in a house at 16 Van Tromp Street. However, Anna Hoffman Ten Eyck Mc Clelland died in April 1813 and was buried in the Presbyterian plot in the State Street cemetery. She had not reached her fortieth birthday!
