Agnietje Gansevoort Williams
by
Stefan Bielinski

Agnietje Gansevoort was born about 1672. She was the daughter of Albany brewer Harmen Harmanse and Maritje Conyn Gansevoort.

She married newcomer tavernkeeper Thomas Williams in August 1692. By 1708, nine children had been baptized in the Albany Dutch church where she was a member and baptism sponsor.

Her family's status improved when her husband was appointed sheriff of Albany County in 1699. The Williams tavern and home were in the first ward where Thomas's tap was supplied by the Gansevoort brewery.

However, Agnietje Gansevoort Williams did not live to her fortieth birthday. She died about 1710 and Williams re-married in 1712.
