Susanna Dircks Bradt
by
Stefan Bielinski

Susanna Dircks was the daughter of Dirck Dirckse and Maria Jans of Norway. She was a resident of Beverwyck and then Albany.

By 1658, she had married Norwegian-ancestry New Netherlander Barent Bradt. They raised a large family of at least ten children. Her sons further established the family in Albany and its environs.

These Bradts lived along Market Street near the northern gate of the stockade. Their home was enumerated on the census of households taken in 1697.

Susanna Dircks Bradt died in May 1722, and was buried beneath the Albany Dutch church. By that time, she may have been a widow!
