Hester Cuyler was baptized in the New York City Dutch Reformed church in October 1748. She was the daughter of Abraham and Jannetje Beekman Cuyler.

She married young attorney and aspiring merchant Leonard Gansevoort in May 1770. Their children were baptized in the Albany Dutch church where both parents were members.

These Gansevoorts lived in a landmark home on lower State Street. Their stables was the setting for Albany's first great fire in 1793. After that, they moved out of the city to their new country home at Whitehall.

Hester Cuyler Gansevoort lived past the death of her husband in 1810 to March 28, 1826 when she died at age seventy-seven.
