Margarita Bries was born in September 1701. She was the daughter of Albany residents Anthony and Catharina Ryckman Bries. Two years later, she was listed as an heir in her father's will.

In September 1720, she married Albany native Christoffel Abeel at the Albany Dutch church. By 1740, nine children were baptized in Albany.

These Abeels lived in Albany's third ward where Christoffel was a prominent fur trader.

Margarita Bries Abeel died in August 1758 and was buried from the Albany church. Her husband lived on for more than a decade.
