Benjamin Bogert

by

Benjamin Bogert was born in March 1698. He was the youngest son of Jacob C. and Jannetie Quackenbush Bogert. He grew up in a large family in Albany's third ward.

In February 1727, he married Albany native Anna Hallenbeck at the Albany Dutch church. By 1746, nine children had been christened in Albany.

Benjamin Bogert was a carpenter who worked locally and as far away as at Oswego. His career lasted at least thru 1767. In that year, he was listed on a city assessment roll in a third ward house that he shared with his son.

In 1715, he was a member of an Albany militia company. In 1730, he was named firemaster for the first ward. In 1742 and in 1763, he was identified as an Albany freeholder.

Benjamin Bogert lost his wife before September 1767 when he posted a bond to administer her estate. He may have died in 1770. In 1788, he still owed eight shillings to the estate of a deceased Albany physician.
