Johannes Beekman

by

This Johannes Beekman was born in March 1744. Although born fifteen years after the parents' marriage, Johannes appears to have been the eldest surviving son of Albany mainliners Johannes and Sara Cuyler Beekman. His mother would die just two years later and his father subsequently remarried.

His father filed a will in May 1756. It named John as his eldest son which entitled this subject to a birthright of a silver watch and also to a share of the father's substantial estate which passed probate in 1759.

After that, qualitative information exists for individuals generally called "John Beekman" that may provide an Albany context - including the contemporary life of John Ja. Beekman, mayor of Albany during the 1780s. However, at this point we cannot confidently assign any of it to this subject. Thus, we move on for now from the life of this "Johannes Beekman" an Albany native born in 1744.
