Captain Benjamin Forsyth commanded a company American riflemen stationed in Ogdensburg in 1812. In the autumn, he led a successful raid on Gananoque and the following February invaded Brockville (then Elizabethtown) on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. He and his troops were driven back to Sackets Harbor when Crown Forces seized Ogdensburg in February 1813. Forsyth was killed in June 1814 when his troops were surprised by Crown Forces near Odelltown, Lower Canada.
