Will of Simon Johannes Veeder - 1785



In the Name of God Amen, I Simon John Veeder of the Normans Kill in the County of Albany Gentlemen being [of a] good sound an Disposing mind memory and understanding praised be God for the same, but considering the certainty of death and the uncertain time thereof do make and publish this as and for my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and disnoust (?) all & every former & other Wills and Testaments heretofore by me made hereby declaring this and no other to be my last Will and Testament:

First: I resign my immortal soul unto the hands of God my Creator hoping for Mercy and Pardon of my sins thru the merits and Mediation of Jesus Christ.

Secondly: I will that all Just Debts and funeral Expenses be paid out of my Personal Estate by my Executors.

Thirdly-I give and devise to my Son Wyngart and to his Heirs forever my Farm and Lands now in my Possession & Occupation at the Normans Kill aforesaid together with the appurtenances as also all the Utensils of Husbandry belonging to the same as also all my Negro slaves except the two herein after named and Given to my Son Volkert,

Fourth, I also give and devise to my two Sons Wyngart and Volkert, and to their heirs forever all my right and Title to the two saw Mills at the Normans Kill aforesaid.

Fifth, I give and devise to my son Volkert and to his Heirs ___________Pieces of ground in the City of Albany ____________and my Negro Wench Ann.

Seventhly, I give and devise unto my two Sons Wyngart & Volkert and my Daughter Catrena and to their Heirs forever as Tenants in common on all the Residue of my Lands and Tenemants lying and being at the Normans Kill aforesaid in the Bounds of the Patent Granted to Jan H Kror Baill_

Eighthly I give and Devise the Residue and Remainder of all my real Estate Lands and Tenements whatsoever and wheresoever to my said two sons Wyngart and Volkert and to their Heirs forever as tenants in Common_

Ninthly I give and bequeath to my said two Sons all my Household Furniture

Tenthly I Give and Devise to my said two sons and to my said Daughter all the Residue of my personal Estate

Lastly I nominate and appoint my said two sons and my Son in law John Glen Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my and Seal this 19th day of March in the Year One Thousand seven hundred and Eighty five at Normans Kill

Be it remembered that on the fifteenth Day of June in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and eighty seven personally appeared before me Abraham G Lansing Esq. Surrogate of the County aforesaid Hendrick Van Niste of Normans Kill in the said County who being duly sworn on his oath declared that he saw Simon J. Veeder sign and seal the within written Instrument on this sheet of paper purporting to be the last Will of the said Simon J. Veeder and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last Will and Testament that at the time thereof he the said Simon J. Veeder was of sound and disposing mind and memory to the best knowledge and belief of him this deponent and that his Name subscribed to the said Will is of his own proper handWriting and that he this Deponent saw John Van Niste and Volkert Veeder the other Witnesses to the said Will subscribe their Names as Witnesses thereto in the Testators presence. Be it also remembered that on the same Day and year above mentioned Lucas W Veeder and Volkert Veeder of the Normans Kill in the County aforesaid and John Glen of the Township of Schenectady, in the County aforesaid the Executors of the within Will Likewise appeared before me and were duly sworn to the true performance and Execution of the within Will by severally taking the usual Oaths as Executors

The preceding is Copy of the Will of Simon J. Veeder and of the Certificate of the Proof thereof

The People of the State of New York by the Grace of God, Free and Independent To all to whom these presents shall come or may concern Send Greeting: Know Ye that at the City of Albany in that Court of Albany before Abraham G. Lansing Esq. Surrogate of our said County the last Will and Testament of Simon J. Veeder deceased (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) was proved, and is now approved and allowed of by us, and the said deceased having whilst he lived and at the time of his Death Goods Chattels or Credits within this State by Means whereof the proving and registering the said Will and the granting Administration of all and singular the said Goods Chattels and Credits and also the auditing and allowing and final discharging the Account thereof doth belong unto us, the Administration of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased, and any way concerning his will is granted unto Lucas W. Veeder and Volkert Veeder of Normans Kill in the County aforesaid Yeoman and John Glen of the Township of Schenectady Esq Executors in the said Will named who being first duly sworn well and faithfully to administer the same, and to make and exhibit a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the said Goods Chattels and Credits and also to render a just and true account thereof when thereunto required. In Testimony whereof we have caused the Seal of Office of our said Surrogate to be hereunto affixed Witness Abraham Lansing Esq Surrogate of the said County, at Albany, the fifteenth Day of June in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and eighty seven and of our Independence the Eleventh.
