Anna Yates Truax

by

Anna Yates was born in March 1768. She was the eldest child in the family of Christoffel and Catherine Waters Yates. She grew up in a merchant's home located just beyond the northern boundary of the city of Albany. Her younger brother was banker John W. Yates.

In November 1789, "Miss Yates" married Henry Truax at the Albany Dutch church. By 1799, four children had been christened in the church where she was a member and pewholder. In 1815, she was a member of the Second Reformed Church of Albany. Her husband was a prominent churchman.

This Truax family made its home on Market Street where Henry was a merchant, official, and participant in civic affairs.

Anna lost her husband in 1834. Anna Yates, the widow of Henry Truax, died in November 1845 and was buried along with Henry and their children in the Dutch church cemetery. She had lived seventy-seven years.
