Albertus Yates

by

Albertus Yates was born in October 1724. He was the son of Joseph and Hendrickie Hooghkerk Yates. He grew up in a large family in a modest smith's home in the first ward.

He does not appear to have married. Perhaps, he lived in his father's house or with one of his more prominent brothers. His long life made only the vaguest impression on the community record.

In 1790, his first ward household of himself and one female was served by two slaves.

According to the newspapers, Albertus Yates died on March 1, 1795 "at an advanced age." He was buried in the church by his brother
