Sara Van Schaick Lansing

by

Sara Van Schaick was born in November 1743. She was the daughter of Johannes and Alida Bogert Van Schaick. She grew up as the eldest daughter of a small Rensselaerswyck family.

In January 1766, she married Rensselaerswyck native Christopher Lansing at the Albany Dutch church. By 1784, six children had been christened in Albany.

These Lansings lived just beyond Albany's northern border in a landmark house built about the time of their marriage.

Their marriage was not particularly long-lived as Sara Van Schaick Lansing died in April 1788 at age forty-four. Her husband lived on in the Lansing house until his death in 1819. Both were interred in the Dutch church cemetery plot.
