Maria Van Schoonhoven Fonda

by

Maria Van Schoonhoven was born in August 1722. She was a younger daughter of one-time Albanty residents Jacobus and Susanna Bradt Van Schoonhoven who had re-located to a family farm at the Halfmoon by the time of her birth.

In September 1743, Maria married Albany native Abraham I. Fonda at the Albany Dutch church. By 1759, six children had been christened in the church where she was a pewholder.

These Fondas made their home in the third ward where this Abraham was a tailor and city servant. At least two bachelor sons appear to have lived in their house.

The name of Abraham I. Fonda has not been encountered in the community-based record after 1788.

Maria Van Schoonhoven Fonda is said to have died in April 1801 and buried in the family cemetery in today's Waterford. Thus, she would have lived for almost eighty years.
