Engeltie Van Schaick Bogert
by
Stefan Bielinski

Engeltie Van Schaick was born in May 1728. She was the first child born to the marriage of Nicholas and Dorothea Witbeck Van Schaick. These Van Schaicks lived in Albany. After three more children, her mother died in 1740. "Claes Van Schaick" passed on in September 1750.

In June 1751, she married Albany native Hendrick Bogert. By 1755, the marriage had produced two daughters.

She may have died in January 1764 when church records noted that the wife of Hendrick Bogert was buried. Her husband may have survived for two more decades.

notes

the people of colonial Albany Sources: The life of Engeltie Van Schaick Bogert is CAP biography number 4026. This sketch is derived chiefly from family and community-based resources.

We do not believe that she was the first wife of Hendrick I. Bogert but the wife of a different Hendrick Bogert for whom letters of administration were issued in 1785. Their first daughter was baptized Dorothea in May 1752 - after this Engeltie's mother. We believe PFS has compressed two "Hendricks" into one!
