Maria Van Ness Van Schelluyne

by

Maria Van Ness was born in April 1692. She was the daughter of Hendrick Van Ness and his second wife, Catharina Van Dam Van Ness. She grew up in a home on the fringes of the city of Albany.

In December 1722, Maria was past thirty when she married an even older Dirck Van Schelluyne at the Albany Dutch church. By 1729, the marriage had produced two children who were christened in Albany.

Van Schelluyne was a mainline merchant who lived in the second ward.

However, their marriage was cut short when Maria Van Ness Van Schelluyne died in June of 1730. She was but thirty-eight years old. Her husband re-married and lived until 1759.
