Volkert Van Hoesen

by

This Volkert Van Hoesen was born in January 1713. He was the son of Albany regional residents Harmen and Geesje Hermans Van Hoesen.

In April 1738, he married a slightly younger Alida Marselis following the posting of banns at the Albany Dutch church. At that time both partners were identified as "young people." Beginning that September, at least seven children had been christened in Albany church. Several of them would forge ties to the Albany community.

Like his parents and in-laws, this individual appears to have been a fringe member of the Albany community rather than a regular city resident.

In July 1744, he was paid for 19 days of work by the Albany government. Perhaps, he had been employed to work on the city's fortifications.

In July 1762, a Volkert Van Hoesen was buried from the Albany church. His widow may have survived for a number of years.

Past diminishing returns on this subject, we move on for now.
