Margarita Van Deusen Cuyler

Margarita Van Deusen was born in New York in April 1695. She was the daughter of Willem Jacobse and Elizabeth Roseboom Van Deusen. Her family lived on Pearl Street where they were Albany mainstays for many years.

In December 1722, she married New York native and Albany resident Hendrick Cuyler, Jr. at the Albany Dutch church. By 1733, six children had been christened in Albany where she was a pewholder and regular baptism sponsor.

This Cuyler family also lived on Pearl Street where Hendrick was a merchant and civic leader.

Hendrick Cuyler, Jr. filed a will in March 1761. It named Margarita and their children as his heirs. He died in 1765. Widow Margarita Cuyler was identified as the head of the houshold and was assessed comparable to a business person on Albany tax rolls during that time.
