Elizabeth Vandenbergh Ostrander

by

Elizabeth Vandenbergh was born in July 1694. She was the first child born to the marriage of Albany-area residents Huybert Gerrits and Maria Lansing Vandenbergh. She grew up in a large family of ten or more children.

In June 1713, Lysbeth married Ulster County native Johannes Ostrander at the church in Kingston. By 1739, twelve children had been christened in the Albany Dutch church where she was a pewholder and regular baptism sponsor.

By that time, Johannes had settled their family in the third ward and then first ward. He was elected assistant alderman on several occasions during the 1720s and 30s. Their home on the Southside near the stockade was a first ward landmark.

After the birth of her last child, Elizabeth Vandenbergh Ostrander seems to have dropped from the community-based record. We seek information on her later life and passing.
