Volkert S. Veeder was born in June 1760. He was the son of Albany-area residents Simon J. and Cathaina Veeder. He grew up on his father's Normanskill farm. In 1785, he was left a share of Simon J. Veeder's estate. His bequest included a house in Albany. In January 1786, he married Anna Spann of the Normanskill at the Schenectady Dutch church. About 1790, he married Anna Quackenbush. Between 1791 and 1800, five children had been christened in Albany where he was a church officer. These Veeders lived on State Street and were Albany mainstays for almost four decades. Volkert was known as a merchant and gentleman. He served as a fire inspector and participated in a number of community improvement initiatives. Volkert S. Veeder was dead by June 23, 1812 when Letters of Administration were issued on his estate.
