Sara Staats Provoost

by

Sara Staats probably was born during the mid-1640s. She would have been the daughter of Abraham and Tryntie Wessels Staats. Her father was a prominent physician and businessman who raised a family at his Albany and countryside locations.

Perhaps during the late 1660s, she married clerk and notary Johannes Provoost. The marriage may have produced four children.

In 1679, their home was valued on a census of Albany householders. She was among the six children named in the will filed by her father in April 1683.

The marriage, however, would not be long-lived. Sara Staats Provoost was dead by June 1685 when Provoost re-married.
