Maria Schuyler Van Dyck

Maria Schuyler was born in September 1666. She was the daughter of David and Catharine Verplanck Schuyler .

In February 1689, She married Hendrick Van Dyck. By 1704, her eight children were baptized in the Albany Dutch church where both parents were members and occasional baptism sponsors.

These Van Dycks lived on Court Street near the river. Van Dyck was a surgeon, businessman, and Albany mainstay who drowned in April 1707.

After the untimely death of her husband, Maria and the children continued to reside in Albany where she was identified as the head of their first ward household. Hendrick Van Dyck died intestate so letters of administration were issued to his widow in 1716. In 1718, she left Albany to live in Kinderhook.

After being bed-ridden for four years, Maria Schuyler Van Dyck died in June 1742 at the age of seventy-six.
