Harmanus Schuyler

Harmanus Schuyler was born in July 1700. He was the son of David D. and Elsje Rutgers Schuyler. His father was a prominent Albany businessman and official. However, David D. Schuyler died in 1715. In 1722, Harme's mother re-married and left Albany to become a Dominie's wife in Kingston.

December 1721, he married Albany native Jannetje Bancker at the Albany Dutch church By 1736, seven children had been christened at the Dutch churches in Albany and New York City.

In 1721, Harmanus Schuyler's name was included on a list of Albany merchants. In 1724, he was elected assistant alderman for the first ward. He soon removed to New York City. Within a few years, he was joined by his wife and their growing family.

In June 1728, he was admitted to the freedom of New York City. At that time, he was identified as a baker. For the next two decades, he appears to have lived in New York.

Harmanus Schuyler died in December 1748. His widow lived until 1757.
