Cornelia Slingerland Evertsen

by

Cornelia Slingerland was born in December 1775. She was the daughter of Albany-area residents Albert and Christina Van Vranken Slingerland.

In August 1795, she married Hendrick Evertsen, a recent widower with children who was fourteen years older than his nineteen-year-old bride. By 1802, they added four more children to this Evertsen family.

Cornelia moved into Evertsen's home on Hudson Street where Hendrick practiced the wood-based trades of the carpenter and cooper.

Hendrick Evertsen died in July 1814 leaving Cornelia a thirty-nine-year-old widow. The next year, Cornelia Slingerland Evertsen was listed as the head of the household at 33 Hudson Street but not afterward. We seek information on her passing.
