Maria Roff Van Santvoortby
Spelled variously, Maria Roff was born in November 1764. She was the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Daalhamer Roff. She grew up with a large extended family on a farm in the northern part of what was then the large town Watervliet known as "the Boght". In September 1786, she married Albany native Anthony Van Santvoort at the Albany Dutch church. By 1797, six children were christened at the Albany church where both parents were members and pewholders. These Van Santvoorts raised their family in a merchant's home in the North End of Albany. Maria Roff Van Santvoort died in November 1800 and was buried from her church. She had lived less than thirty-four years. Her husband re-married and survived for another half century. notes
