Ariaantie Roseboom Pruyn

by

Ariaantie (Harriet) Roseboom was born in October 1770. She was the daughter of Jacob and Hester Lansing Roseboom. She grew up as a middle child of a large family in a merchant's house in the third ward.

In August 1802, she married Albany native Jacob S. Pruyn at the Albany Dutch church. The marriage produced at least four children during the first decade of the nineteenth century.

Jacob Pruyn was a Hudson River skipper. For a number of years, these Pruyns and their children lived in the Hudson Street home of "Harriet's" widowed mother along with John Roseboom. Until 1821, city directories also listed Jacob Pruyn as a resident of 59 Hudson Street. After that, the Pruyns seem to have left Albany.

Harriet Pruyn's husband died in Lafayette, Onondaga County in July of 1836. The Albany paper noted that "Harriet, relict of the late Jacob S. Pruyn," died in August 1851 at the age of eighty-one.
