Harmen Thomase Hun

Harmen Thomase is said to have been born in Ammersfort (Amersfoort), Holland about 1625. He emigrated to New Netherland and was living in Beverwyck by 1661. Harmen Thomase was the founder of the Hun family of early Albany.

By that time, he had married European-born Catharina Bercx - a widow with at least five surviving children.They made a joint will in 1663.

He was known as a "master shoemaker." He was identified as an Albany resident on the census of householders taken in 1679. He was an occasional litigant before the Albany court and a member of the Albany Dutch church.

Fifty-five by 1680, as he aged, his name became less apparent on Albany rolls. However, in 1699, a "Harmen Thomasen" joined with his Albany area neighbors in swearing allegiance to the king of England. Harmen Thomase Hun was last heard from in 1703.
