Cathalina Hun Lansing
by
Stefan Bielinski

Cathalina Hun was born in September 1693. She was the first of the nine children of Thomas Harmanse and Mayeke Oothout Hun. She grew up in a third ward merchant's home helping her mother raise younger siblings following the death of her father in 1716. As could be expected in such family situations, she waited longer than most to establish her own family.

In December 1726, Cathalina was thirty-three when she married Johannes G. Lansing - an Albany baker's son two years her junior.

The marriage, however, was short-lived. Cathalina Hun Lansing died in October 1727 following the birth of her first child. She had just passed her thirty-fourth birthday. Lansing re-married two years later.
