Sara Goewy probably was born during the 1680s. She may have been the daughter of Jan S. Goewy and his wife, Caatje Lookermans.

In October 1705, she married Gerrit S. Van Schaick in New York City. Their first child was born four months later. By 1723, a total of nine children had been baptized in the Albany Dutch church.

For the first two decades of their marriage, these Van Schaicks lived in Albany's third ward. Van Schaick was appointed sheriff of Albany County in 1719. Within a few years, they had moved on to a farm at Schaghticoke.

Sara Goewy Van Schaick died sometime after the birth of her last child in 1723.
