Jellis De Garmo

by

In May 1767, the name " Jelles De Garrao" appeared on a roster of enlisted men in a militia company drawn from the city of Albany. We expect that he was the last child born to the marriage of Albany residents Jellis and Rachel Everts De Garmo who was christened at the Albany Dutch church in January 1749. If so, he grew up in a large family in the home of a first ward leatherworker and landholder.

In 1767, Jellis De Garmo (and his older brother Jacob) also was listed on the roster of another Albany militia company - this one representing the first ward.

However, Jellis De Garmo may have not survived for another decade. His name was not included along with his mother and brother on the will filed by the elder Jellis in March 1779. We seek definitive information on the passing of this younger Jellis.
