Hendrick Douw

by

Hendrick Douw was born in April 1722. He was only the second son among the nine children born to Petrus and Anna Van Rensselaer Douw. He grew up at the Albany and Greenbush homes of one of Albany's most affluent families.

He does not appear to have married. He should not be confused with a much older, same-named uncle who had a more substantial life and died in 1751.

As noted by his father in his bible, "my son" Hendrick Douw died in December 1756 "after an illness of ten weeks." He was buried on December 20 in the family's Greenbush plot. He had lived thirty-four years.
