Pieter Bennewe

by

Pieter Bennewe was born in September 1697. He was the first child born to the marriage of Pierre and Hendrickie Van Schoonhoven Bennewe. He grew up in a mid-sized family in a marginal home in the North End of Albany.

In March 1723, he married farmer's daughter "Ann Fort" at the Albany Dutch church. By 1740, six children had been christened in Albany.

Pieter Bennewe lived on leased land in Schaghticoke where he cut wood and sold it to Albany. In 1753, he represented Schaghticoke people in a rent dispute with the Albany government.

As late as 1767, he owed rents to Albany. Perhaps he was the same-named individual who owned substantial property at Halfmoon at that time.
