Petrus Bogardus

by

Frequently referenced as Petrus Bogardus, he was so christened in April 1691 at the Albany Dutch church as the son of Albany residents Pieter and Wyntie Bosch Bogardus. However, a decade later, Pieter Bogardus had relocated his family to Kingston.

In February 1702, his father identified son "Peter" among the heirs in his will. Eventually, he would share in his father's real property holdings which may have included some land in Albany.

Petrus appears to have spent his adult life in Ulster County as well probably beginning with his marriage to one Sarah Schoonmaker - in Kingston in September 1718. At least two of their children (1724 and 1727) were baptized in Albany - the others at the Dutch church in Kingston.

Petrus Bogardus may have survived until 1771. However, a number of same-named individuals are at risk in Ulster County during this subject's lifetime.
