Maria Bogardus Groesbeck

by

Maria Bogardus was born in February 1712. She was the daughter of Anthony and widow Jannetje Knickerbocker Lansing Bogardus. She grew up in a large family in the first ward home of a middling wood worker and city contractor.

In October 1739, Maria was twenty-nine when she married Albany native Wouter N. Groesbeck at the Albany Dutch church. By 1750, five children had been christened in Albany.

This couple appears to have raised their family in an Albany home.

However, their marriage would not be a long one as Maria was dead by 1761 when her husband re-married.

After 1759, her pew seat (pew #63) in the church was transferred to another family member. Maria Bogardus Groesbeck had lived for less than fifty years.
